Note from the Color Guard Vice President

Dear MEPA members,

I wanted to write a short note to thank you for your support as color guard V.P. I really feel the circuit is poised to make some major strides in terms of quality in every aspect. There seems to be a real desire on the part of unit directors and our judging community to push ourselves to a higher level, thereby serving our ultimate clients- the students we teach- in a better way. With that said, here are some goals for 2008-2009.

1. Create an exciting/informative education weekend in the form of the MEPA EXPERIENCE. This event will seek to teach, as well as inspire, as we interact with clinicians as well as the judging community. Other important parts of the weekend will be unit performances, as well as social time for circuit members and judges to get to know each other in a non-competitive atmosphere.

2. As a board we are committed to going 'all digital' for 2009. Instead of a collection of tapes at every show you will get one CD. Also, we are committed to providing a DVD for each show while allowing units to record their own performance if they choose.

3. Make lines of communication with the judging community more open. While some growth was made last year we still have a ways to go. The judging community is working very hard to get better. We as instructors need to work WITH them in a constructive way for the betterment of the circuit. Being prepared and respectful for critiques, the addition of video critiques and the ongoing education of instructors (see MEPA EXPERIENCE) will all make this happen.

In closing, if there is anything I can do to help you as you prepare for the 2009 season- Please ask.
